Ranga Shankara’s first home production was Girish Karnad’s play in three languages: Odakalu Bimba (Kannada) featuring Arundhati Nag; A Heap of Broken Images (English) featuring Arundhati Raja; and Bikhre Bimb (Hindi) featuring Arundhati Nag. Since its premiere in 2005, Bikhre Bimb has travelled to all the major festivals and theatres across India with over 100 shows.
At the 2008 Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards, Karnad won the Best Playwright and Best Director awards, while Arundhati Nag scooped up the Best Actress award for the play.
Along with technological brilliance, the production has won acclaim for its powerful story, with Karnad delving into the mind of a woman and the complexities of being an Indian writer in English.
